SIMINA GRIGORIU
Romanian born and Toronto raised, Simina Grigoriu has built a decade long career that has established her as one of the most respected talents on the European techno circuit.
She began her musical journey as a DJ before transitioning into production, later founding Kuukou Records, which has grown into one of the scene’s most respected imprints and a launchpad for emerging artists.
Simina’s musical roots run deep. As a child she studied classical violin and keyboard, and combined with her parents’ musical legacy and a teenage passion for hip hop freestyling, these influences shaped the foundations of her distinctive sound. Growing up within Toronto’s club culture, where artists such as Jeff Mills, Josh Wink and Juan Atkins left a lasting impression, her style evolved into the driving and uplifting techno she is known for today.
Now based in Berlin, she draws inspiration from one of the world’s most influential clubbing capitals, a city whose diversity mirrors her own broad influences.
Her first productions appeared in 2010 on Sonat Records with the release of the Mukluks and Ponytails EP. This was followed by releases on Phase Insane Records, Intelectro Vibe, Urban Sound and Frequenza Records. Her debut album Exit City became one of the highest charting releases on Susumu Records.
After a year focused on motherhood while maintaining an active studio presence, Simina launched Kuukou Records in July 2016 with its inaugural release Techno Monkey. Shortly after, she released Matching Numbers on FORM Music, founded by POPOF, featuring a standout remix by Julian Jeweil.
Since then, Simina has become a regular presence on leading techno labels including ELEVATE, Octopus Recordings, Tronic Music, Set About, Prospect Records and Complexed Records, earning international acclaim for her powerful and precise productions.
